Supporting Students

The Phoenix Union Foundation for Education grants scholarships to graduating students on an annual basis. Funds are raised to support these scholarships awarded to PXU students who are pursuing a post-secondary education at universities, colleges, or accredited trade schools.

The Foundation Scholarships are supported by the Phoenix Union Foundation for Education “Impact Your Community” Campaign. Our “Invest in the Best” Scholarships are championed by PXU employees through their donations and payroll deductions. The “Giving Back Pays Forward” Scholarships are sustained by donors who have created memorial scholarships and annual sponsors who also support the Foundation.

The Foundation partners with the Arizona Community Foundation providing a comprehensive and objective application process where applicants are encouraged to include their dedication to academics, community service, extra-curricular participation, and future goals.

Adam Pizzano is an awardee of a foundation scholarship. He attends Arizona State University. Here he is volunteering with the Hispanic Business Association.

"As a senior at Cesar Chavez High School, when I was notified of being selected as a recipient of the Phoenix Union High School District Scholarship, I was filled with an overwhelming sense of relief and excitement. Growing up in a financially challenged environment, the idea of attending a university like ASU seemed like an unattainable dream. However, the unwavering support of the scholarship program and its donors made it possible for me to pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints.
With a decent amount of financial weight lifted off my shoulders, I was able to fully immerse myself in my studies and college life. ASU's vibrant and diverse campus offered a multitude of opportunities to grow academically, socially, and personally. As a result of the scholarship assistance, my academic performance soared, and I was able to explore various academic disciplines that piqued my interest.
Beyond the classroom, the Phoenix Union High School District Scholarship opened doors to a myriad of enriching experiences. Engaging in student organizations, participating in community outreach programs, and collaborating with professors on research projects allowed me to expand my horizons and develop essential skills. These experiences, in turn, fortified my confidence and nurtured leadership qualities within me."

"Throughout the 2023 spring semester I had the opportunity of curating events that brought happiness through a wedding planning internship. I loved the space so much I decided to pursue a special event management certificate in hopes of going to places where people celebrate all of life’s beautiful moments."

Scholarship Recipient's Tip on Preparation for College:

"My advice for Future Phoenix Union Students. If you're starting in college and feeling overwhelmed? Get involved on campus. Club membership, events, or volunteering are ways to meet people and connect. Get organized with your assignments and do not hesitate to use campus resources: tutoring, counseling. Most importantly, believe in yourself and don't hesitate to take chances. You're more able than you think!"

Andrew Acosta

Scholarship Recipient's Tip on Preparation for College:

"My advice for incoming college freshmen is to make informed decisions. Being in college offers a great deal of freedom. It’s important to be smart with your time and energy. This daily practice can help save you from making potentially harmful decisions. Prioritize your mental health, but don’t make excuses for yourself. That’s the most important part, taking accountability for your actions. If you’re an incoming college student, just know you can succeed only if you allow yourself to do so. Use the resources given to you, they are there to help make the experience much easier."

Trinity Markham

Scholarship Recipient's Tip on Preparation for College:

"If you’re a Phoenix Union student preparing for college, my biggest advice is to know your “why.” College can be overwhelming, especially at first. There are long nights, heavy workloads, and times you might question if you belong. But when you have a purpose driving you, whether it’s helping others, achieving something no one else in your family has, or building a better life, you’ll be able to keep going, even when it’s hard.

Find your support system early. One of the best things about ASU Downtown is the strong sense of community. There are so many people here who want to see you succeed like your professors, advisors, mentors, and classmates. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself, ask questions, and use the resources around you. I tried to attend student events and community engagement programs that helped me feel more connected and gave me confidence in my future career."

Sierra Orosco

Scholarship Recipient's Tip on Preparation for College:

While the transition from high school to college can feel overwhelming, one key piece of advice I would give to Phoenix Union students is: get involved. It’s normal to feel uncomfortable or nervous at first but stepping out of your comfort
zone is where the growth happens. Getting involved has made my college journey so much more memorable and rewarding. I’ve been fortunate to meet so many amazing people from all around the world and form genuine friendships that I truly value. If there’s one takeaway I’d share, it’s this: take initiative. Say yes to opportunities, challenge yourself, and make your college experience your own."
